Transfer Order: Then and Now
Business users would often ask me about the utility of In-Transit Location for Transfer Order functionality of Microsoft Dynamics NAV. My answer to them would be until the consignment reaches the destination (Transfer-to-Code) this feature provides information about its In-Transit status. This would serve a specific purpose of not letting people wait without information till the consignment is delivered from source Location (Transfer-form Code).
After the release of Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2018 and Business Central we see an addition to this Transfer Order functionality in the form of the Direct Transfer feature. Let us suppose the transit time between source and destination location is less, then business user can directly show a material transfer between two locations with out showing the transit period. Further to this the In-Transit Location is no longer mandatory for the business users. they can enable it if the estimated transit duration is long. Otherwise only the Direct Transfer can be used.
To enable this feature business users need to simply activate the Direct Transfer Boolean filed, which is available on Transfer Order List as well as Card page window.
Direct Transfer, the newly released functionality reminds me of Item Re-Classification Journal which has been available since the earliest version of NAV. However the difference is that transaction history is available for the users to refer at later point in time, which could not be done with Item Re-Classification Journal.

The benefit of the Direct Transfer feature is that it saves the time spent on monitoring the In-Transit status.

ReplyDeleteHey Jaymesh,
Deletedo you know why this function is not possible to use (by design) for location sat up with "Require Pick" or "Require Shipment". As this feature adress inbound posting, only?

I also would like to know the answer to this - is it a bug? Makes no sense given you can Ship directly from a Transfer Order where the Send from Location has Require Pick enabled, so why restrict Direct Transfer in this instance?
