New Feature of Dynamics 365 Business Central : Item Type

Item Type: New updated Option field on Item Table.

With the release of NAV 2013 Microsoft has introduced Item Type (Option filed) with following options:
1. Inventory
2. Service

Since release of Dynamics 365 Business Central one more option is added in Item Type as "Non Inventory".

Item Card

"Non Inventory" item option is useful for recording inventory transaction of low cost item which are generally used internally within the organisation.

Example: Office supplies, Catalog Item

With this "Non-Inventory" Option we can benefit from Item capabilities like- pricing, discounts, Vendor/Item catalog, Unit of measure, extended text, tariff numbers etc.

This new Item Type Option- "Non Inventory" is reminding me of earlier NAV version features called "Inventory Value at Zero".

Capabilities of "Non Inventory" Item:

1. Sales
2. Purchase
3. Production Consumption
4. Assembly Consumption
5. Service Consumption
6. Job Consumption

Limitation of "Non Inventory" Item:

We can not use following functionalities with the "Non Inventory" Item:

1. Item Tracking
2. Reservations
3. Planning
4. Warehousing
5. Inventory Costing & Revaluation
6. Physical Inventory Counting
7. Assembly Output
8. Production Output
9. Location Transfer
